Faculty Of Dental Technology

 

The School of Dental Technology began in the year 2000 with a mission to provide dental technology education which is an art and science, and to graduate dental laboratory technicians. Lab technicians play a major role in the successful practice of dentistry. They fabricate all the various appliances used by dentists in the treatment of patients, fabricate orthodontic appliances, full dentures, partial dentures, crowns and bridges from a dentist’s prescription and patient’s impression. They may also produce specialty items such as surgical splints and sports mouthguards, as well as implant-related restorations. A dental laboratory technician works with a wide variety of materials, including metals, ceramics, and plastics, to create these restorative and corrective tools.

 


Admission Criteria
  Minimum percentage to be admitted to the Faculty of Dental Technology by Sudan School Certificate (or equivalent after evaluation) is 70%.  


Course Phases
 

The program duration is three years. The Academic year shall be divided into two semesters, each semester shall not be less than 16 weeks of actual contact hours. candidates shall abide by all the general examination regulation of the University. The senate meeting of the university may award the degree of diploma in Dental Technology to those candidates who have satisfied the requirements of the School of Dental Technology for the degree.

The program include the following subjects:

By the end of first year the candidates have completed Introduction to Dental Materials, the anatomy of the head and neck and the anatomy of the oral cavity, the morphology of all teeth in the oral cavity, introduction to computer science, and introduction of the partial and complete dentures. In the Second year the candidates should do the partial in the artificial models, begin to fabricate the removable orthodontic appliances, fabricating the crown and bridges and design removable partial dentures for chromo cobalt. In the third year they continue to complete practical work of the second year , in addition to the splints of missed parts of maxillofacial bones.

So by the end of this program the students should be able to:

- Design and fabricate removable partial and complete dentures for the patient.

- Fabricate the removable orthodontic appliances and removable and fixed space maintainers.

- Fabricate crown and brides (ceramic and acrylic).

- Fabricate splints for maxillofacial prosthesis.
