Introduction
 

The University of Medical Sciences and Technology (UMST) was established in 1995 and its first intake of students was in May 1996.

 Location and Buildings:-
The University is located in El Riyadh (Khartoum State), Square No. 13, east of Khartoum Airport.

General Conditions:
   
  1. Applying to the University for Undergraduate Study Courses is through the Admission Office at the Ministry of Higher Education when announced for.

  2. It can also be directly to the University, and the applicant will be advised to fill in the Ministry of Higher Education admission form.

  3. Application must be accompanied by the applicants’ School Certificate.

  4. Possession of a School Certificate, or equivalent qualifications with appropriate details, establishes eligibility only, and not a right of acceptance by the University. If there are more qualified candidates than places available, excellence in the relevant subjects will be considered in addition to undergoing an interview before decisions of acceptance are made final.

  5. Applications for admission to a preliminary year of the University should reach the Admission Office not later than the end of the fourth week of the first semester of the year in which the applicant wishes to be admitted to the University.

  6. An accepted student who fails to report to the University within the first one week of admission, may, subject to the availability of places, be denied the chance of admission.

  7. No candidate shall be admitted to the University until s/he has:

    • Signed the registration form.
    • Paid all fees and deposits, as required by the University.

  8. All students will be required to undergo an interview and a medical examination before admission to the University and certified physically fit.

  9. Signed an undertaking to have been vaccinated against HEPATITIS B.

  10. A dismissed student from one of the University’s faculties will not be permitted to apply to join any of the other faculties.

  11. 11. In order to be eligible for the award of a degree, diploma or certificate of the University, a candidate shall have completed residence in the University of at least 50% of the total prescribed period.

    Admission requirements:
     
      • The minimum entrance requirements for admission to the University are either a Sudanese Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent (e.g. O-Level/IGCSE) with at least seven passes in seven subjects obtained at one and the same examination.

      • Minimum percentage required by Sudanese School Certificate or (equivalent after evaluation):

      1. Faculty of Medicine (80%).

      2. Faculty of Dentistry (78%).

      3. Faculty of Pharmacy (78%).

      4. Faculty of Medical Laboratory Sciences (70%).

      5. Faculty of Radiological Sciences; (70%).

      6. Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology: (70%).

      7. Faculty of Nursing Sciences: (70%).

      8. Faculty of Engineering: Biomedical Engineering: (75%).

      9. Faculty of Engineering: Electronics Control: (75%).

      10. Faculty of Engineering: Electronics Communications: (75%).

      11. Faculty of Anaesthetic Sciences: (70%).

      12. Faculty of Business Administration: (70%).

      13. Faculty of Social and Environmental Studies (68%).

      14. Faculty of Communication Sciences and Information Technology (65%).

      15. Greenwich Program (65% for either Sudan School Certificate or foreign certificates ( with at least a (B) score in Mathematics and English Language).

      16. Nursing Technology Diploma (55%).

    • Applications from students transferring from other universities may be accepted depending on availability of places.


    • Applications of candidates holding university degrees are not acceptable.


    • Candidates applying to be transferred to the University should fulfil the following requirements:


      1. Applications of candidates holding university degrees are not acceptable.


      2. She /His School Certificate should fulfil the minimum requirements for admission to the University as well as the requirements of the Faculty to be admitted to.


      3. Date of sitting for the School Certificate should be the same as that of the batch she/he is joining or maximum two years earlier.


      4. IV. She/he should hold a certificate of promotion from class to class in the university last registered with.
     


    Tuition fees:
     

    The annual tuition fees for Sudanese and non-Sudanese students for the academic year 2010/2011:

    • Medicine: (SDG: 18,000.00).

    • Dentistry: (SDG: 18,000.00).

    • Pharmacy: (SDG: 16,000.00).

    • Medical Laboratory Sciences: (SDG: 7,000.00).

    • Radiological Sciences: (SDG: 5,000.00).

    • Computer Science and Information Technology: (SDG: 5,000.00).

    • Nursing Sciences: (SDG: 5,000.00).

    • Biomedical Engineering: (SDG: 8,500.00).

    • Electronics Control: (SDG: 8,500.00).

    • Electronics Communications: (SDG: 8,500.00).

    • Anaesthetic Sciences: (SDG: 5,000.00).

    • Business Administration: (SDG: 8,000.00).

    • Social and Environmental Studies: (SDG: 5,000.00).

    • Communication Sciences and Information Technology: (SDG: 2,000.00).

    • Higher National Diploma (HND): (SDG: 10,000.00)

    • Nursing Technology Diploma: (SDG: 2,000.00)


    Students will continue by their first year tuition fees up to completion of their studies (i.e. will not be affected by any increment if so made).

    Accommodation:

    The University provides accommodation for students with full services (accommodation + transportation to and from the University). Annual amount charged for the residence as follows:

    1. Female residence: Al Fagr (SDG: 7,000.00) & Al Ula: (SDG: 6,000.00).


    2. Male residence: Al Tamiuz: (SDG: 6,000.00).


    Studentships on Admission: -

  • The University offers annually studentships for Sudanese students nominated by the Higher Education applying for admission to any Faculty in the University who memorize the Holy Quran. The studentship covers the tuition fees for the whole study course.


  • If two brothers/sisters or more are admitted to any faculty in the University in the same or different batches, tuition fees will be deduced by 16%.
