The library was established together with the first faculty in 1996 and then progressed
smoothly in concordance with the increase in number of faculties, students and their
requirement. It covers the area of 408 square meters. The library works for 14 continuous
hours starting at 8 am and closes at 11 pm. The library also used to answer students
needs on weekends and holidays when it’s Necessary. During Ramadan the library
takes an hour off at 6 pm and resumes its work until 11 pm. Library staff is comprised
of head librarian and 6 staff members, 4 of them specialized in libraries and information
sciences. Library collections contains over 5000 text and reference books , 26 medical
periodical titles , WHO’s publications , students graduation researches ,
and past examination papers , in addition to CD's video tapes and albums .the library
is also connected to the internet so users can benefits it’s services . Library
holding cover all fields required by faculties curriculum , including medicine ,
anatomy , physiology , nutrition , public health , pharmacology , diseases , surgery
, dentistry , ophthalmology , pediatrics’ , obstetrics and gynecology , computer
sciences , management sciences and engineering sciences . Library museum collected
sum models of surgical operation done in the academy’s teaching hospital and
saved them for educational purposes, in addition to anatomical bone models. Student
with highest attendance will be given the library bonus award every semester to
encourage students stay in the library as much as they can.
The main library contains more than 7000 books and references and is organised on
open shelves with room for 20% of the entire student body at any time. There are
two halls for scientific discussion and two museums – one for pathology another
for anatomy and dissection. There is an electronic library with free internet and
computer services for students. There are two additional libraries, one in the Academic
Charity Hospital and one in AlBanjadeed Hospital.
